Jason Fisher
- Owner, Indie Alehouse Brewing Co.
“Jason is the owner operator of the Indie Alehouse brewery and brewpub in the west end of Toronto, and Birroteca a brewpub concept in partnership with Eataly.
Jason first got into home brewing at age 16, for a Gr. 10 science project cleverly titled “the life cycle of yeast” as a cover for brewing beer as a school project. Home brewing became a hobby for a long while, Jason collected more than 1000 magazines and books from the 70’s 80’s and 90’s on brewing but with no real prospects of opening a brewery at the time chose to pursue a diverse education first at Dalhousie University ’92 , then U of T in Geology ’94, Chemistry, Physics and Business before attending brewing school solely as a hobby.
As an executive in marketing and business analytics for 15+ years with Bell Canada and American Express, Jason spent any free time homebrewing, traveling, and building data models and business plans on how a small brewery could be built and work on a small budget within the archaic liquor laws of Ontario. With frequent work travel to the US, Jason was heavily influenced by the new small breweries popping up all over the US and counts many of them as strong influences for the Indie Alehouse.
The Indie Alehouse opened in 2012 and now has 3 operating locations including a production facility and a small on-site brewpub inside Eataly Toronto.”
